Getting There
Fly into the Netherlands via Lelystad Airport and arrive by taxi or shuttle to the festival, which is only 20 minutes away by car. For the Australian event, arrive via the Sydney Airport. With the festival grounds being a solid one hour drive from the airport, make sure to arrange transportation beforehand.
Camping
Both Defqon.1 events include camping with the purchase of event tickets. Campers enjoy an extra day of the festival, which is essentially an arrival party featuring a smaller program. The campsite closes on Monday morning.
Book a Hotel
If camping isn’t quite your style, there are good hotel options as an alternative. In the Netherlands, the Princess Hotel Dorhout Mees is about five kilometers away from the festival grounds. The Hotel Elburg is the second closest, at ten kilometers away. More hotels lay on the other side of Lake Veluwe, so make sure to arrange a safe ride to and from the festival grounds. For the Australian event, the Chifley Hotel Penrith is going to be the closest option at seven kilometers away. More hotels are in the Penrith area, with isn’t too far away from the festival grounds.
Take a Helicopter Ride
After 5 pm, catch an aerial view of the festival via onsite helicopter rides. Just be sure to sign up early, as spots for the whole weekend fill up fast.
Don’t Forget Your BBQ
What camping experience is complete without BBQ? Defqon.1 allows disposable grills into the camping area; just remember that only small-sized gas canisters are permitted. Don’t have a disposable grill? Pick one up at the camping store, along with some food to grill if you forget to bring some!
A Little More Amusement
During the festival, attendees at the Netherlands Defqon.1 can get discounted tickets to the Walibi Amusement Park, which is on the same grounds as the festival. The discount only applies during Defqon.1 weekend, so if you’re up for a little more adventure, definitely check it out.
