Find a Balance
A typical festival attendee may get his only exercise by walking to the event from the hotel, and lifting a fork to his mouth all day. But you’re doing yourself a disservice if the only Aspen scenery you see is the view from the park. This festival is set in a stunning area in the Rocky Mountains, so make a little time to enjoy it.
Light trekkers can get plenty of exercise by walking around downtown Aspen. Leave the car behind and hoof it everywhere. More intrepid outdoor folks can head just 10 miles out of town to hike the Maroon Bells. There’s even a public bus, so you can still ditch the car and make it a local adventure.
Late night parties are a huge reason why the superstar chefs stay up late here, and why you should, too. It’s often one of the best ways you can get up close and ask questions, including why they chose the cheeky beverage clutched in their hands.
If you haven’t gotten enough food and wine from the festival, book a table at the Chef’s Club by Food & Wine, which will rotate its staff of “Best New Chefs” denoted by the magazine each year when the Classic kicks off. Hold out for a late-night dessert bash and maybe clink glasses with your favorite chef.
