Everfest's Take

From the Organizer

The Kingman Island Bluegrass and Folk Festival has become the signature folk festival in the Washington, DC area and has quickly grown into the largest all-local music festival in the area, attracting over 13,000 attendees annually since 2014. Nestled between the banks of the beautiful Anacostia River, the festival celebrates the community, local music, food and culture--all to benefit disadvantaged youth and young adults served by Living Classrooms of the National Capital Region. The Festival features multiple stages and over eight hours of performances by dozens of local bluegrass, folk and Americana artists, games and outdoor beverages, DC’s favorite food trucks, free kayaking courtesy of REI, giveaways and a number of activities for children of all ages including a children’s stage with arts & crafts. In 2016, we started our mission to make this the first Zero-Waste festival in the District! Festival goers are encouraged to bring only reusable, recyclable, or compostable containers. Please help us alleviate our footprint on this beautiful island and keep it green! Proceeds from the festival benefit Living Classrooms’ educational programming as well as the continued maintenance of Kingman Island as an educational and recreational space for the community. Living Classrooms Foundation strengthens communities and inspires young people to achieve their potential through hands-on education and job training, using urban, natural, and maritime resources as “living classrooms.” Living Classrooms Foundation is a Washington, DC-Baltimore based nonprofit educational organization with a distinctive competency in experiential learning—literally learning by direct experience, or what we call “learning by doing,” and has been proudly serving Washington, DC and surrounding metropolitan areas since 2001. General Admission prices start at $15 and are released on an incremental basis leading up the festival, VIP tickets also available for a first-class experience. Sponsorship, and media opportunities exist for businesses who would like to invest in the production of this annual event. For more information and contacts please visit our festival website.
