It’s a little over four hours drive from Malawi’s capital city airport in Lilongwe to Chintheche on the Northern lakeshore.
The majority of festival staffers are actually working on a volunteer basis in order to bring tourism to the country and support the neighboring villages. But festival attendees also contribute heavily to the Lake of Stars’ volunteer efforts during the long weekend. In the past, attendees have worked with the fest’s nominated charity, Microloan Foundation, as well as the local orphanage.
Pull An All-Nighter
Between late-night music or meeting someone special, staying up all night is a fairly typical festival activity at Lake of Stars. Not all festivals take place on a twinkling lake, though, so the pro-tip here is to watch the sun rise over Lake Malawi at least one morning.
