Oceania, sometimes referred to as Oceanica, is the central and southern portion of the Pacific Ocean dotted with islands that don’t have a continent to call home. Within the three regions of islands—Polynesia, Micronesia and Melanesia—there are thousands of islands. Some of the Oceania island nations are larger, such as New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. But most are tiny, such as Fiji, Tonga and the Solomon Islands. But when it comes to festival prowess, island size might as well be a distant thought. Festivals in Oceania nations are mighty and contain a concoction of unique culture. For example: Kiwiburn in Hunterville, New Zealand, is the Kiwis’ take on Burning Man, while the Mount Hagen Cultural Show in Mount Hagen, Papua New Guinea, is teeming with tradition.
