Be prepared
With the music going from noon till midnight and Byron Bay being notorious for offering rain and sunshine within an hour of each other, you ought to bring a knapsack with a variety of clothes to the festival. Bring a funny hat as that's become a cultural norm for the festival. You don't need to bring food as the festival has gourmet breakfast, lunch, and dinner options onsite, but be prepared for expensive drink prices.
Buy a VIP pass early
Because the festival skews a little older and more affluent than the average music festival, the VIP packages sell out fast and are considered good value relative to the pricey normal ticket cost. VIP gives you better bathrooms, more access to drinks, and a nice spot to wait out the rain.
If you're in the area in October, check out the Boomerang Festival.
The Bluesfest organizers have created a popular Australian indigenous festival at the same location as Bluesfest but on the other side the calendar. This celebration of world cultures has some serious momentum.
Travel
If you're coming from outside Australia, you'll probably fly into Sydney and then, flights arrive daily to Ballina, Lismore and the Gold Coast Airports.
