Do the Umra
Though not part of the mandated rituals to become a hajji, Umra is an additional pilgrimage and set of rituals that many do before embarking on the full Hajj experience. Doing the Hajj and the Umra together is called the Hajji-Tamattu.
Stone the devil
Part of the Hajj experience, which happens in the nearby sites of Muzdalifa and Mina, is a ritualistic stoning of the devil. You gather a few dozen rocks, then hurl them at green pillars (called jamraat) which represent the devil. After that, a lamb is slaughtered for sacrifice and men's heads are shaved bald.
Celebrate Eid
Directly following Hajj is Eid al-Adha (literally: “the festival of the sacrifice”), in honor of Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son to God. The four-day worldwide event involves going to mosque to pray, wearing one’s finest clothes, giving gifts to children, and visiting friends and family.
