Move over Electric Daisy Carnival and Electric ForestAlfa Future People is here and coming in hot with a stage worthy to join your ranks. Fresh off its fourth birthday this past weekend in Bolshoe Kozino, Russia, Alfa Future People (AFP) is the country's largest electronic music fest. Steeped in a futuristic aesthetic, the dystopian vibes were a surprisingly good match for the thrashy, bombastic beats on offer. He adliners Hardwell, Don Diablo, W&W and Tchami  gave the hard-partying Russians another taste of their home country's mighty engineering skills – they were, of course, the first humans in outer space.

As with many of the festival world's grandiose LED never-never lands, the main stage swirled with intense pumps of neon, seamless projection mapping, lavish fireworks and borderline overkill laser shows. Since 2014, the stage's conceptual design has centered around a cyborgian female figure; this year, the faceless woman was anchored atop the 100-foot-long stage's center panel. Body outlined in neon and enveloped by fog, this blue-hued centerpiece pulsated in sync with the beats below her feet.
