On a bright blue Sunday morning, thousands of people took to the streets of San Francisco. Dressed as bananas, disco balls, bottles of Sriracha, fuzzy monsters and unicorns (just to name a few), the teeming, costumed masses made their way across town, from the bay to the ocean. Just a typical day in San Francisco? Well yeah, kinda, but it’s also Bay to Breakers, the annual footrace that is the longest-running event of its kind in the world.

Love it or hate it, Bay to Breakers is a fixture in San Francisco, having attracted runners (or in more recent years, drunk stumblers) since 1912. Next year’s event will take place on May 17th, so start planning those costumes now!

Until then, here’s just a smattering of some of this year’s participants.
