Burning Man is a festival that will fire-up your inner pyro. It all started with a humble wooden effigy in San Francisco, burned as a tribute to love lost. Now, some 28 years later, the man burns as bright as ever. These were some of the hottest moments on the playa this year.

The Man Burn

was otherworldly this year...

Fire Tornadoes

Vortexes of fire, ash and dust swirled into the night.

The Regional Burns

Burn, baby burn.

The Flamethrower Shooting Gallery

Playing with fire has never been so much fun.

More Flamethrowers

They just never get old.

El Pulpo Mechanico

Eight tentacles of fire stormed the playa.

Dance Dance Immolation

Dance Dance Revolution with the added consquence of being blasted in the face with fire. No pressure!

Robot Heart Sunrise

A fitting tribute to the ultimate fireball: the Sun. With a really, really good soundtrack.

The Photo Chapel Burn

"I've always wanted to burn a church," Michael Garlington, the creator of the intricate Photo Chapel, said. And burn a church he did, with the help of flamethrowers. It blazed so hot, the crowd had to move back 50 feet.

The Temple Burn

The Temple of Whollyness went down in flames.

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust....
