What could be more promising than a comedy festival curated by perhaps the most influential force in the comedy genre? Today, Comedy Central announced that it is entering the festival space in 2017 with its very own comedy festival (duh), and partnering with Superfly – the folks behind Outside Lands and Bonnaroo. Our anticipation levels just went from "high" to "stratospheric."

The three-day event will take place in San Francisco – the same city where Outside Lands dominates the music festival landscape each year – and will obviously showcase the creme de la creme of the comedy scene in a myriad of mediums spanning standup, sketch, podcast, and digital. There will also be live versions of several Comedy Central series featuring CC stars. Does that mean there will be a South Park live show? A live Tosh.0 experience? Maybe Amy Schumer or Broad City will come to life before our very eyes?! And the as-yet-unnamed event won't be limited to comedy; it will also feature music and cuisine, something at which the Bay Area already excels.

It's important to note that this future festival will fill an enormous hole, especially in the United States. The only other comedy festival of this caliber in North America currently is Just For Laughs in Montreal, Canada. Comedy Central president Kent Alterman told Deadline Hollywood, “The other festivals were more industry driven, this is a totally fan-driven event for the comedy super fans.”

Also differentiating it from previous attempts at large-scale comedy festivals is its additional focus on music and food – a triple-threat combo previously explored by Superfly's other festival property, Outside Lands – which features robust music, food and comedy programming each year.

When asked why San Francisco was chosen as its locale, Alterman told Deadline Hollywood, “It has an incredible comedy legacy and a very active community of fans; there are a lot of comedians who come out of San Francisco.”

We can't wait to add this one to our yearly festival agenda!
