For those who've been awaiting news about this year's Decibel Festival , the answers are here, and they're disappointing.

Along with so many other festivals this year, the festival is now on indefinite hiatus. Decibel has built a reputation as a premiere West Coast electronic music and visual art festival for the last 11 years, but it looks like the Seattle, WA festival may not be back anytime soon. Decibel Festival Founder, Curator and President Sean Patrick Horton has released a statement citing his recent move to Los Angeles (to work for original festival sponsor Red Bull), as the primary reason for taking a break.

Naturally, the distance and responsibilities of a new gig has affected his ability to manage the festival. However, Horton says, "Decibel as an organization will continue and this is a temporary and much needed break." Horton also encourages "anyone who has supported Decibel over the years to attend the inaugural Chance of Rain Festival (September 28th – October 2nd), which is dedicated to the further development of electronic music and will be produced by previous Decibel staff members."

In an interview with THUMP , Horton remains optimistic and says "I do see an opportunity for North American festivals to expand out to post-EDM audiences that are looking for something more intimate and authentic... Overall I feel that the North American underground electronic community is in a good place and much of that can be measured by the success of festivals like these" (festivals like Lightning in a Bottle , Desert Hearts (another fest taking a break), Symbiosis Gathering , What the Festival , and Movement in Detroit).

Horton continues, "At the heart of Decibel has always been the Seattle electronic music community, which to this day remains the most vibrant and resilient I’ve ever had the pleasure of being a part of. No place did this resiliency shine through more than with the Decibel Staff, who consistently met each challenge with poise and professionalism. To the dozen of staff members who have touched the festival over the years, I offer you my deepest gratitude and respect... Thank you once again for all of the support over the years. Change never comes easy, but know that Decibel as an organization will arise once again with new leadership to help guide it."
