"Old-chella"? More like "Once-in-a-lifetime-chella." The organizers of Coachella finally confirmed those rumbling rumors of a new music event on the very same ground as its flagship festival. While not a festival in the traditional sense, AEG Live's new event, now christened Desert Trip , is a concert in October 2016 at the Empire Polo Club that boasts a veritable murderer's row of rock legends: The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and His Band, Neil Young & Promise of the Real, Paul McCartney, Roger Waters, and The Who across three nights.

Passes go on sale Monday, May 9 at 10 am PST. This gathering of the gods of rock n' roll hasn't even happened yet, and it's already made history. Many of these rock acts will be sharing the same stage for the first time in their respective, decades-long careers. Not only that – each act will play their own full sets, complete with world-class stage production and sound, unlike many other abbreviated headlining sets at festivals. For this reason, we believe passes, though quite pricey, will sell out quickly. Hotel packages, premium seating, RV and tent camping will also be available. Adding to the event's selling points is an all-star lineup of world renowned chefs and 40 of the best restaurants from Los Angeles to New York.

These six acts each had a major hand in shaping what music is today. In fact, each of them are so essential to the modern music landscape that it's truly unfathomable to consider what music would sound like today had none of them come along. To many music fans, a lineup this stacked previously seemed like a complete pipe dream mere days ago. And now, those same music fans – who definitely occupy an older demographic than many of Coachella's fans – have Coachella and its massive success to thank for making it a reality. Coachella grossed a profit of $84 million last year so, despite this lineup likely being one of the costliest in festival history, the cash cow that is Indio's flagship event pulled it off, after all.

As festivals and their lineups continue to be more homogenized as they're acquired by conglomerations, a new movement towards more curated musical offerings has risen. Tapping into a more specific festival offering is a savvy move by AEG Live, as its likely to capture a moneyed, passionate audience that would never otherwise attend Coachella. While Desert Trip is still currently billed as a one-time event, we wouldn't be surprised to see future iterations based on its almost surefire financial success.
