We teamed up with our friends at Daily Beat to cover the shenanigans at this year's Electric Zoo, and were lucky enough to interview some of the performers on this year's lineup. Below, we talk with Chad Cisneros of Tritonal about what two DJs he'd choose to be his parents, sobriety and the first album he ever bought.

Daily Beat: This wasn’t your first time performing at Ezoo so how did you guys make sure this one was special?

Chad: Preparation and more preparation! We edited, mashed up, and produced about every track we dropped. Every single record we played had a Sync’d Visual Movie that went with it, and we made all of these ourselves! A lot of DJ’s say things like "I never plan my sets." That’s just not true with us on our festival plays. We only get a short 55-60 mins and need to make certain that those minutes count. We definitely swap out the track order live, but for the most part we went into this set well prepared. That said, it was 100% mixed live!

Daily Beat: What do you like best about Ezoo?

Chad: I love Randall’s Island, and NYC in general. The NYC Tritonians are definitely my favorite part, as we have received that same welcome at Governor’s Island as well!

Daily Beat: If you could add 1 artist to your group, who would it be and why?

Chad: One artist? Nah, I wouldn’t. I’d happily collaborate with a lot of inspirational artists, but we are Tritonal. No need for anyone.

Daily Beat: In regards to your new release, Anchor, do you think you are or have been anyone's anchor?

Chad: Most definitely! Have an amazing relationship with my wife, we’ve been together since we were Freshmen in high school, so like 18 yrs now! I also am 9 years sober, sponsor many men in NA, AA, CA and have definitely been an “anchor” in their lives as they get into the program and change their lives. That said, I have anchors in my own life. Its important to have foundation.

Daily Beat: What does that song mean to you?

Chad: Its a simple song, and has a simple meaning. It’s about life, and about a relationship. It’s about being there for people you love, helping others and getting out of yourself. Great message, love it.

Daily Beat: What was your greatest accomplishment in 2013 as you guys exploded through the EDM scene?

Chad: “Now Or Never” broke through like a firecracker! We quickly followed this up with “Colors” and remixes for Zedd & Hardwell. Not sure it was anyone single thing, but probably a culmination of some good songs.

Daily Beat: Any pre-show rituals?

Chad: Dave and I say a quick prayer many times before our set, shake dem jitters!

Daily Beat: What was the first album you bought with your own money?

Chad: Michael Jackson “Thriller.”

Daily Beat: Do you guys like to cook? If so, what can you cook best?

Chad: I suck…..like really suck. My wife is great, and I try to help. Now, I am pretty beast mode at Masticating Juice. ha!

Daily Beat: Do you have any pets? What happens to them when you tour?

Chad: Nope, not even a fish! HA!

Daily Beat: If you could pick any 2 DJ’s to be your parents, who would they be and why?

Chad: Funny ass question, someone actually bringing something w/ a kick to an interview - love it. Paavo & Jono of Above & Beyond are my picks. Out of all of the characters in EDM, I put my money on those guys for a moral upbringing, semblance of spirituality and ethos. In other words, they’re classy.

Daily Beat: What's one track that you guys are proud of that people might not know about?

Chad: Colors is my favorite male vocal, Anchor is quickly becoming my favorite female!

Daily Beat: Tell us a bit about your new EP, Metamorphic III and the work that has gone into it.

Chad: It’s been an idea that started over a year ago at a dinner w/ our managers discussing our “Metamorphosis” in sound. We weren’t ready as writers to tackle another album, as we were still exploring ourselves within Progressive House as opposed to Trance. That said, we are prolific enough that singles didn’t sound right either. We wanted to do something different, and a journey through 3 EP’s was the way! We’ve written so much music over the last 18 months, and have basically boiled it down to 9 songs. We’re proud of that.

Daily Beat: The two previews we've got so far are amazing! What do you think is your favorite song off this EP?

Chad: ANCHOR! Now, Satellite and Seraphic are super amazing too, this EP is the strongest out of all 3 in my opinion. You can see the tremendous growth from the first to the last in a short amount of time.

Daily Beat: What was the process like in choosing who you wanted to work with like Mr. FijiWiji and Jonathan Mendelsohn?

Chad: Well Jonathan is more than just an artist, he’s a homie so working with was different. Big fans of his for a long time, and when we heard Satellite we knew we had a MONSTER! It was different with The Fij, as we had our MGMT reach out to him. Dave and I listen to Chill Out music constantly, and his Sentient is one of my favs. The collab was so quick and easy, we should def do another one!
