Headgear and hair adornment is the ultimate expression of personal style. It can transform you into whoever or whatever you want to be. Whether you dress more simply or really go all out from the neck down, a unique headpiece can truly level-up your entire look. Below are some of our favorite ways to adorn our heads. Note: This list includes everything besides hats. For our favorite festie hats click here.

Because we are all kings and queens! What better way to royally and confidently prance across a festival's grounds than topped with a sparkly crown?

Kritter Klips

Kritter Klips are a festival must have! Handcrafted in San Francisco, they come in a variety of types from more “realistic” to glittery and colorful. They are great on girls and guys and can be worn in the hair or clipped onto a hat. They promote meaningful self-expression, playfulness and simply spreading smiles in everyday life.

There are about a million ways to wear a scarf on your head but these people particularly nailed it.

You can put just about anything in your hair, whether it's feathers, ribbons, beads, colorful braids, or synthetic dreads. Just let your imagination run wild with color and texture. Rustlocks are dread hair wraps set with intention. You can get them woven into your hair in person at a festival or on one of their tours, or order clip-ins. They are the most transformative adornment I have ever experienced.

Hoods

Furry or sequined, long or short, a hood is the old-faithful accessory of the festie world. All shapes and sizes are available. Make sure you have at least one that's warm and furry and one that's lightweight for changing temperatures from day to night.

If you’re going to don a headpiece, make sure it is unique and doesn’t offend any native tribes or resemble a war bonnet. A flower/feather combo, ram horns or butterflies coming out of your head can add whimsy to any dance floor!

Custom Headwear

If you are looking for something that's one of a kind, the majority of these designers can create custom creations just for you! Simply DM them on Instagram or reach out via Etsy or Facebook.

Avatara Designs, created by famed festival artist Ava Youssefi, was just recently launched after years of custom and one-of-a-kind creations for private clients and organizations.

You can always try to make something for yourself as well! A local craft store can be your best friend during festival season. My advice is to go and browse. Get some cool accessories you like and then jump online for a tutorial on how to make the crown or headpiece of your dreams.
