Festival International de Jazz de Montréal (the Montréal Jazz Festival) is much more than just a jazz fest. Yes – now in it's 39th year and scored the 2004 Guinness World Record for largest jazz festival in the world – jazz is indeed the foundation upon which the festival is built, but it's a completely multi-faceted experience that's centered around Downtown Montréal, similar to the genre-bending New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. The festival takes over the center of the city for 11 days with programming for anyone who's ever dared to love music.
From jazz to world music, to hip-hop and pop, from family- and kid-friendly activities to foodie-centric attractions, it's hard not to find something to get into at the festival. And what else? Two thirds of the 500+ scheduled concerts are free! The programming is diverse and so are the attendees. At the end of the day, Montréal Jazz Festival is an amazing way to experience music and experience Montréal, no matter who you are.
