The summer sun may bring out the big ticket music festivals, but fall seems to be ripe with cultural festivals that I'm already gearing up for. Case in point: La Calaca.

While La Calaca is still in its festival infancy (established in 2012) it has built upon the time-honored traditions and rituals of Dia de los Muertos celebration to create a modern event that includes concerts, dance parties, conferences and parades. Set in the charming colonial Mexican town of San Miguel de Allende, La Calaca is a destination festival at the top of my bucket list.
