With Holy Ship! just around the corner (it starts February 18) we can't help but obsess over just how awesome the concept of a festival on a boat is. Roaming acres of festival grounds in your best costume or outfit is great and all, but a pair of legs can only take you so far. Floating on a decked-out cruise ship sailing tropical seas under the blazing sun with all your friends (while you rave to DJs or headbang to KISS) with basically no curfew sounds way better. Don't believe us? This list of the best cruise ship festivals might change your mind. And just because some have already passed doesn't mean you can't get ahead start on planning for next year!

KISS Kruise, October 30-November 3, Jamaica

Toto, we're not in Detroit Rock City anymore If you're going to get on a boat and watch live music, you'd better do it with the ultimate party band, KISS, as you sail to Jamaica. For 5 years running, KISS has invited its beyond-loyal, face-painted KISS Army (or in this case, its KISS Navy) aboard the Norwegian Pearl for 5 solid days of riffs and bangover. Other bands joining these legends of rock n' roll spectacle range from hair metal to psychedelia to cover bands, but this kruise is quite clearly all about its namesake and its 40-year global legacy. Because KISS has been around for four decades, you'll see multiple generations and entire families enjoying the kruise together – so don't be alarmed if you find yourself headbanging to "Christine Sixteen" next to a 10-year old. That doesn't mean there won't be plenty of adult-only activities.

Kid Rock's Chillin' the Most Cruise, March 2-6, Cozumel, Mexico

You think the singer of "Bawitaba," one of the heaviest rock debut tracks ever, would let you get away without a healthy dose of riffage? Don't be fooled by the name – Kid Rock's cruise isn't a snoozefest, especially because the Kid himself picks the lineup for his always-sold-out voyage to Mexico. This year, special guests won't be announced until guests board the ship (how retro!), though past performers include Whodini and Shooter Jennings, so some chilling is definitely on the menu. Between getting tattoos on board, participating in Deck Wars (I vote for Team So Hott), a Redneck Prom Night and playing Nintendo Wii on a 2-story screen, that hangover you'll feel when you get back to the Port of Miami will be so worth it.

The Rock Boat, January 24-28, Cozumel, Mexico

Still going strong after 15 years on the high seas, The Rock Boat was decidedly ahead of its time in the cruise ship festival game. Formed by Florida alt-rock band Sister Hazel, one might say each year's lineup features the creme da le creme of what we'd call "cool dad rock"; past performers include Edwin McCain, Collective Soul, Tonic, Barenaked Ladies, Vertical Horizon, Better Than Ezra, Shawn Mullins and Michael Franti & Spearhead. Onboard activities to supplement this alt-rock extravaganza include Boozical Chairs, a Flip Cup Tournament and a Battleshots Tournament that is a grown-up version of Battleship that involves plenty of tequila.

NKOTB Cruise, October 8-12, Grand Turk

If you thought New Kids on the Block were strictly on the casino circuit these days, you're dead wrong. For 7 solid years, thousands of diehard NKOTB superfans have boarded the Carnival Victory en masse to see one of the original (and best) boy bands shake their hips and croon sweet melodies as the entire party – all of whom, of course, have no problem reliving their teenage years in public – heads to Grand Turk Island. For video proof of how much sway the New Kids still have on the hearts of their now fully-adult devotees, watch the video above.

ShipRocked, February 2-6, Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas

Sounds to us like ShipRocked is the kind of cruise you have to start training for months in advance, because there's a whole lot of hardcore partiers on this boat. Fred Durst, Zakk Wylde, Megadeth's David Ellefson, Anthrax's Frank Bello, and Andrew W.K. joined forces on this year's voyage, while the likes of Korn, Godsmack, Helmet and Papa Roach have played in previous iterations. And not only does ShipRocked serve up skull-crushing riffs – there are plenty of other activities to keep you busy, from a Drunk Spelling Bee, to Rock & Roll Bingo, Hard Rock Karaoke and an on-board tattoo parlor (should you get a body part signed by all the members of Limp Bizkit) and theme nights.

Holy Ship!, February 18-21, Coco Cay, Bahamas

If working those sea legs during a rave at sea and on a tropical beach in the Bahamas doesn't sound like a bucket-list item, we're not sure what does. World-class DJs, from Zedd to Pharrell to Skrillex to Knife Party to Major Lazer and Diplo provide the beats, while you rage into the morning amidst beautiful bodies, glowy lights and starlit nights—minus the masses and mud. Think Electric Daisy Carnival, but with only 3 percent of the crowd. And on an air-conditioned boat. Once the boat docks in the Bahamas, the party continues, as attendees dance, frolic in the surf and build sandcastles. And don't be surprised if you wind up doing shots with Tiesto or playing poker with Steve Aoki. Holy Ship! is known to get surreal pretty fast.

Monsters of Rock Cruise, April 18-22, Nassau, Bahamas

Like SiriusXM's Hair Nation come to life, the Monsters of Rock Cruise is your chance to parade your spandexed, Aquanetted, lipstick-wearing self around without fear – because with this floating festival's lineup, you'll be in good company. Aboard the MSC Divina, work your neck muscles headbanging to classic 80s metal from Tesla, Europe, Extreme, Kix, Night Ranger, Stryper, Queensryche, Krokus, Lita Ford, Y&T, Faster Pussycat, Cherrie Currie, Bang Tango and way more. We suspect the people-watching on this boat might just be second to none – and keep your ears peeled for former groupies and old rockers swapping war stories.

Jam Cruise, January 6-11, Roatan, Honduras and Costa Maya, Mexico

Jam Cruise just wrapped its 13th year on the water, making it another one of the original live music cruises sailing towards paradise today (it's one of the events that inspired Holy Ship!). Its consistently illustrious lineup of performers (JC13 featured Pretty Lights, Umphrey's McGee, G. Love & Special Sauce, Charles Bradley & His Extraordinaires and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, to name a few) isn't the only thing that commands respect in the cruise ship festival world. Jam Cruise also puts a ton of effort into its very own "Positive Legacy," which encompasses programs for musicians and music fans alike that positively impact the communities and natural environments Jam Cruise visits. This includes donation drives, service days and panels on global greening efforts.
