As always, Reykjavík is on the bleeding edge of Nordic culture and all things cool – and the city knows how to show off that cred during Iceland Airwaves , which occurred last weekend from November 4-8. The festival, which is primarily sponsored by Icelandair, is going through a growth spurt – as is its home city – which meant the roster was bigger and better than ever. Over 100 acts, comprised of both uber hip up-and-coming acts like OBGM, Ariel Pink, Menge, and Bo Ningen, and local acts like Agent Fresco, played across 14 different venues and more than three dozen unofficial-venue sites. Bjork, who has been present at almost every Iceland Airwaves ever, even held a press conference for Gaetum Gardsins (Protect the Park) — a grass-roots movement to protect Iceland's central highlands from industrial development.
Combine this eclectic and cutting-edge musical component with the magic of the land of fire and ice and super stylish attendees, and you've got a hell of festival scene. Below are photos from this year's action.
