The Dead with Cheese. No, that's not some grim restaurant special, but two of jam music's most hallowed bands uniting for the four-day Los Muertos Con Queso . According to Jambase, The String Cheese Incident and Grateful Dead, two of music's most epic jammers, will unite down in Riviera Maya, Mexico, from January 25 – 28, 2017, to celebrate the new year in paradise.

The jam band scene is no stranger to epic collabs, and this is one for the books. Jam enthusiasts will see tunes from Grateful Dead's large catalog performed by original Dead members Bill Kreutzmann and Bob Weir, Widespread Panic bassist Dave Schools, American Babies guitarist Tom Hamilton, and keyboardist Jeff Chimenti from Dead & Company. The Chris Robinson Brotherhood will also be there. Jam fans are doubtless stoked on a new way to ring in the new year.

With so many jam music festivals on hiatus or straight-up canceled in 2016 (Wakarusa, Gathering of the Vibes, All Good Festival, etc.), this event comes at just the right time for many of the genre's devotees. No telling if it'll become a yearly gathering in the tropics, as The String Cheese Incident also runs its own young festival, Suwannee Hulaween, but it will certainly be a welcome addition to any jam band lover's yearly festival itinerary.

Ticket packages to the event go on sale Thursday, September 29, 2016.
