Synth lovers and electronica enthusiasts gathered in Asheville, North Carolina last week for another round of Moogfest, a visionary festival dedicated to the life and legacy of Robert Moog , creator of the modern synthesizer. Since launching thirteen years ago, the festival has become a vanguard of progressive values for embracing new technology, enabling political mobility and for diving deep on significant thematic issues in our present culture. 2017 themes ranged from "The Future of Creativity," "Black Quantum Futurism," "Instrument Design," "Hacking Systems," "Sci-Fi Wishes and Utopian Dreams" and "Techno Shamanism, " among others).

Clearly, experimentation is the name of the game at Moogfest; the festival stacks their daytime program, "Future Thought," with diverse educational workshops; at night, things get funky with a broad range of audio showcases at "Future Sound."

Lights, lasers and the fruits of Moog's legacy are all on offer in the dazzling photo gallery below. Enjoy!
