People of Glastonbury's Outrageous LGBT Club NYC Downlow
What makes Glastonbury such a powerhouse is its diversity. It's one of the cornerstones of the festival; everywhere you go there are different sets of people, from straggly-haired indie kids to timid parents dipping their toes into the festival experience for the first time, now that their kids are all grown up. One of Glastonbury's best celebrations of diversity is the excellent NYC Downlow, which is part of the legendary Block9 area. At NYC Downlow you get an experience like nowhere else at the festival.
The facade is designed to look like an old decrepit building in the meatpacking district of New York, and the tranny shows on the catwalk inside the club are set to music provided by some of the best house and disco DJs in the world. The inclusive atmosphere represents the roots of dance music, when people of all walks of life would mingle on the dance floor united by the beats and melodies played by inspirational figures like Larry Levan at the Paradise Garage. To celebrate the wonder that is NYC Downlow, here's a selection of photos featuring its magnificent, lascivious performers (including the inimitable Mykki Blanco, who is first up below).
