Last weekend, thousands of fabulous queens, kings, and fans stomped their way to RuPaul’s DragCon, the world’s largest celebration of drag culture, to strut their stuff and throw some shade along the way. Now in its fourth year, the three-day convention and festival opened its doors to fans of drag culture and RuPaul’s Drag Race, the reality series currently airing its 10th season on VH1.
Presented by the creators of RuPaul’s Drag Race, DragCon is a haven for fans of all ages to meet their favorite drag queens, and to shop and attend panels and discussions. There was no shortage of contoured faces, lace-front wigs, and celebrities such as Billy Eichner, Jeffree Star, and Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman strutting throughout the Los Angeles Convention Center.
RuPaul, who is undeniably the biggest drag queen of our time, continues to make quite the commotion in pop culture, politics, and beyond. DragCon, RuPaul’s Drag Race, and the awareness he’s raised around drag culture in general are RuPaul’s response to the tired, old status quo and the personification of his motto to “not take life too seriously” — and honey, we’re here for it. This year’s LA event was its biggest yet, and the looks the queens served did not disappoint.
As past RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant Gia Gunn once put it, these queens were definitely “feeling their oats” as they bounced around the convention center floor. Get ready to gag at our favorite looks from Drag Race stars, their fans, and everything in between from this year’s LA DragCon. Shante, you stay!
