Set in Harbin’s (Northern China) coldest months, this two-month festival features breathtaking temporary works of art, all created with ice from the Songhua River. Between the four primary parks and amusement zones, there are a few thousand pieces, not to mention all the ice architecture created throughout the city for the winter – really, it's everywhere you look.

This gallery showcases some serious 2015 standouts, like a giant old man sitting in a chair reading a book and an entire, rainbow-lit city made of ice blocks, or the intricately carved tiger and eagle, both in major beast mode. Next time you build a snowman in your front yard, channel the ice and snow masters of Harbin.
