Get the best view
Stand at the bottom of the hill to watch the catchers—a squadron of rugby players or other locals deployed on scene to “catch” or at least break the fall of those madly-careening downhill by tackling them.
Costume watch
Take in all the vibrant, ridiculous, hilarious costumes—ninjas, superheroes, Santa hats, Army fatigues—and some of them closer to a birthday suit, leaving very little to the imagination.
Take the kids for the sugar
Sweets, treats, and baked goods are often scattered on the hill as part of the ritual. You can bring the kids here for an uphill race, and at the very end of the competition, candy is often scattered on the hill for kids to scramble around and collect.
Pace yourself
Eat a quality breakfast because the event lasts well into the afternoon. Be prepared to walk over a mile due the fact that police close the road off.
