Whether your festival season is just starting or still in winter hibernation mode, you've always gotta have your wardrobe ready for the magical experiences ahead. Dressing up at these events is one of the easiest ways to practice self-expression and creativity – that said, hopping from festival to festival looking super fly isn't always cheap. Here are five easy ways to revitalize your festival wardrobe for the year to come, without breaking the bank.

1. Dye it!

One of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to breathe new life into a garment you already own is to dye it. While natural fibers like cotton or silk dye the easiest, they now have dye for synthetic fibers as well (like polyester). Try to start with something white – however, any light color will do. Just remember if your garment is colored already, whatever dye you choose will mix with that. For example, if you have a light blue shirt and use red dye on it, you'll get a slight purple undertone. You can also use color remover on a currently dyed item to remove that color and start anew.

Rit dyes are easy to find locally but can also be ordered online. The company also has tons of tips on their website for mixing colors. You can find many tutorials online to show you how to dye clothing either one color or with many different ones to create a pattern – we especially like the one above. Depending on how many colors you want to use, the cost will be about $5 a bottle.

2. Host a Clothing Swap

Not only will you walk out with fresh pieces for your festie wardrobe, but you'll get to see your friends as well! I suggest you ask people to bring both things that they can add to a general gifting pile in addition to items they specifically want to trade. That way, everyone gets something new – even if they only brought a few items.

3. Decorate a Hat You Already Own

From top hats to military styles, snapbacks and everything in between, hats are an essential part of any festival outfit. And best of all, you can use almost anything to decorate your existing hat selection. Take inventory of any paint, old jewelry, feathers or fabric you might want to use for embellishment, and from there you can see what other things you need. Pick a color scheme and vibe, hit up your local craft store, and run with it. You can also check thrift stores for pins or brooches to add. Another great place to look is your nearest 99-cent store. These often have little doodads that, with a little creativity, can be put to good use.

4. Buy Eye-Popping Fabrics and Safety Pins

A surefire way to give past looks a unique overhaul is to source new fabrics yourself. If you live in a major city, go to your local fashion district for the best deals and widest selection. If you don’t live in a major city, any fabric shop will do. With just a yard or two of dope fabric in different patterns, textures and colors, the possibilities are endless – you don’t even have to know how to sew! You can use large, quality safety pins to fasten fabric to the back of a top or coat to create a flowing cape. You can also use pins to attach fabric to the back of a pair of shorts or a skirt to create a bustle-like effect.

Another easy thing to make is a no-sew bandana. Most spandex fabrics won't fray or unravel, so all you have to do is cut a square of fabric, fold it in half, tie it around your neck, and voila! You've got a totally new, functional and fashionable festie item.

5. Throw on Some Glitter or Face Paint

Everyone wants to sparkle and shine under festival stage lights. Try glitter under your eyes or on your cheeks – simply swipe Chapstick onto the places you want to sparkle and tap the glitter onto your skin. If you want larger flecks of glitter or even jewels on your face, try eyelash glue. You can get all different kinds of glitter at craft stores for under $5; look for holographic glitter for maximum sparkle. You can also get cosmetic-grade glitter online.

If glitter isn’t your thing, you can easily add some cool designs to your face just by using puff or glow-in-the-dark paint. If you feel artistically challenged, don't fret; it is easy to apply with your hands or a paintbrush, and it all wipes off easily. Use paint to create patterns with dots above your eyebrows, down the middle of your face, or under your eyes. Here you can get sets of multiples colors for under $10.

6. Color Your Hair

Mermaid hair was a huge trend in 2015, and whimsically colored hair shows no signs of stopping its domination of festival style. Dyeing your locks (or even your beard!) is not only a boss way to stand in a fest crowd, it's also a great way to bring your kaleidoscopic festie vibes back into your daily life once the weekend's over. If you'd prefer to skip salon prices while exploring new frontiers of rainbow-hued hair, give Manic Panic hair color a try. Tubs of Manic Panic's technicolor range of hair creams will run you just $13.99, and are semi-permanent just in case you are prone to changing your mind.
