Suwannee Hulaween casts a serious spell thanks to its otherworldly lights, costumed festies, vibey art installations, Spanish Moss-laden trees and Spirit Lake, and its high caliber music.
Although it only hit the fest circuit a few years ago, its renown has spread fast and far. One reason: the String Cheese Incident hosts the bash, and it secures a big-name line up of fellow jam bands and EDM artists to play, with funk, hip hop and reggae performers thrown in to keep things lively. This year, the likes of My Morning Jacket, Anderson .Paak, Logic, Lettuce, Bob Moses, Umphrey's McGee and many more peppered the multiple stages with incredible sets lasting well into the wee hours of the morning. Check out our list of the 5 most sizzling musical sets from 2016 here.
Another reason Hula wins raves: it's a Halloween party, where bands and fest-goers alike show their spooky spirit with all-out costumes and decorations. Fun fact: Both Anderson .Paak and the members of Bob Moses channeled 80s hair metal vibes on stage this year with wigs and such. Then there's Hulaween's perfect setting: it's outdoors under giant, moss-draped trees, with the occasional bat swooping by. It feels a little bit haunted and Southern Gothic, and a whole lot gorgeous and atmospheric.
