For most of the year, visitors to the Midwest's riverfront parks enjoy serene moments at the shore of the Missouri River. The surrounding plains are flat and subdued and are the perfect environment for contemplation; they're a place to spend time with family, and keep it low key. However, one weekend every year, serenity is replaced with bliss, families are ditched for squads and Dancefestopia's Dancefestopians do what they do best – dance nonstop for four days and three nights.

Put together by Borda Productions, Dancefestopia is an intimate boutique festival where it feels more like a house party with your fest friends and extended festival family, yet the beats are provided by some of the biggest electronic music acts in the world. Because what dance music fan hasn't dreamt about having the likes of Tiesto and Bassnectar play in their own cozy backyard? Dancefestopia is the closest you'll get to fulfilling that fantasy, only there are no curfews; here, there are just three stages and a few thousand attendees raging to tastemaking music 24/7 on the banks of the mighty Missouri River. The 2017 lineup below proves just that.

Aside from the music and contemplative chill sessions on the banks of the river, there is plenty to do. Dancefestopia offers canoe trips, helicopter rides, riverside hiking, a Ferris wheel, incredible fireworks, and even a mechanical bull for the daredevil festival-goers who want to strut their stuff. There are major improvements in store for 2017, such as the Bass Head Sanctuary, a special Bass Head camping area in Forest Camping that features fire pits, a drum circle, Bass-inspired art and much, much more. You'll also find national meetups for Glovers, Hoopers, and Shufflers, all on the main stage. Organizers have expanded the Forest camping areas with better LED lighting to light your way back home at night. And to everyone's delight, there will be double the bathrooms this year. Dancefestopia is still a cozy yet high-production affair now, but it's already grown immensely since its beginnings in 2012. Considering the location of the festival (this area's plains and rivers are regarded worldwide), the acts presented at this festival are quite an accomplishment. Aside from Lollapalooza and Pitchfork Music Festival, the festival representation in the Midwest, and especially in the Kansas City area, is scarce. Dancefestopia has put Missouri on the festival map, especially for the EDM community that thrives on the coasts and has gradually made its way across the continental U.S. (and the world) thanks to events like Dancefestopia.
