What makes an incredible festival lineup? When it comes to a mainstream music festival like Outside Lands in San Francisco's sprawling Golden Gate Park, a great lineup's gotta have a little bit of the trendy and obvious, a lot of savvy curveballs, and just the right amount of "Holy sh*t, I never thought I'd get see them in my lifetime." And this year, San Francisco's marquee music festival has the perfect amount of each.

In the headliners alone we have the somewhat obvious: Above & Beyond, A Tribe Called Quest, alt-J, and Lorde, all of whom top other festival lineups this year. But then it comes to Metallica (who will return to OSL for the first time since 2012), Queens of the Stone Age (who don't have any fest appearances on their calendar aside from Japan's Fuji Rock Festival), and Gorillaz (who just announced their own UK festival on the heels of their first new album in six years), and you're undoubtedly left thinking, "Okay, OSL's kicking more ass than usual this year." And then you read The Who, who last performed at the much-coveted, sold-out-in-a-flash Desert Trip, and any sane person who cares about the history of music and the life-changing power of rock n' roll probably has their jaw on the ground and credit cards out ready to buy tickets.

Rising stars (Solange! Future Islands! Kaytranada! Schoolboy Q!) and hidden gems (The Lemon Twigs! Kamaiyah! Porches!) abound throughout the rest of the lineup poster, including all of the festival's side attractions and experiences. Take a moment to feast your eyes on it and plan your trip to Golden Gate Park this August 11-13, 2017. Outside Lands' ten-year anniversary is gonna be lit.
